Two Complete Writing Courses. One Powerful Path From Story Idea to Finished Book.
Give the young writer in your life more than writing exercises. Give them a clear path to create, develop, and finish their own book.
The Young Authors Course Combo Package brings together our two age-specific creative writing programs—Kid-Writers: Write Your First Book for ages 8–11 and Young Authors: Write Your First Book for ages 12–17—in one convenient package.
Each course contains 10 carefully structured lessons designed for the developmental needs of its age group. Younger writers learn through accessible, imaginative activities that make storytelling exciting and achievable, while teens move into deeper instruction on story architecture, character psychology, scenes, voice, theme, revision, and developing a sustainable writing practice.
This is not simply a collection of prompts. Both courses are built around a real goal: helping young writers move from an idea to a completed manuscript.
Perfect for Families With Young Writers of Different Ages
Have an 8-year-old who invents characters constantly and a teenager working on a novel? This package allows both writers to learn at the appropriate level without forcing them into the same material.
It is also an excellent choice for parents who want a younger writer to begin with the 8–11 course and have the more advanced 12–17 program ready as their writing skills mature.
What's Included
Kid-Writers: Write Your First Book — Ages 8–11 introduces young storytellers to generating ideas, creating memorable characters, building settings, understanding beginning-middle-end structure, writing strong openings, developing middles and dialogue, creating satisfying endings, revising, editing, and completing their first book.
Young Authors: Write Your First Book — Ages 12–17 takes those skills further with story concepts and premises, character depth and psychology, plot and chapter planning, scene architecture, dialogue, point of view, voice, emotional depth, theme and symbolism, drafting strategies, revision, feedback, manuscript preparation, portfolio development, and a 90-day writing plan.
More Than Lessons—They Build a Book
Throughout the courses, young writers don't simply learn about writing. They write.
Step by step, activities and Book Builder exercises help them develop the pieces of their own projects until those pieces begin to form a manuscript.
Depending on the writer's age, interests, and chosen project, they can work toward fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or another appropriate creative writing project.

Ages 8–11: Build Confidence and Discover the Joy of Writing
Young writers learn that stories are not mysterious things that only “real authors” know how to create.
They learn to ask:
Who is my character?
What does my character want?
Where does the story happen?
What goes wrong?
What happens next?
How does it end?
The course turns those questions into manageable writing steps that help children move from “I have an idea!” to “I wrote it!”
Ages 12–17: Move From Creative Writer to Young Author
Teen writers are ready for more sophisticated questions.
Why does this character make this choice?
What is really happening beneath this conversation?
Does every scene change something?
What is the story exploring beneath the plot?
Where is the manuscript losing momentum?
How do I revise a complete draft without becoming overwhelmed?
The Young Authors course helps students approach their work with greater intention while still protecting the imagination and experimentation that make creative writing exciting.
Who Is This Package For?
This combo is ideal for families with children in both age groups, homeschool families, parents supporting serious young writers, siblings who want to write together, and families who want a long-term creative writing resource their children can grow with.
No previous book-writing experience is required.
Writers simply need curiosity, imagination, and a willingness to put words on the page.
Two Age Groups. Two Learning Experiences. One Big Goal.
By the end, your young writers won't simply be able to tell you what characters, scenes, dialogue, plot, and revision are.
They will have used those skills to create something of their own.
Because young writers shouldn't have to wait until adulthood to discover that their ideas are worth developing.
Give them the tools.
Give them the structure.
Give them permission to imagine.
Then help them finish what they started.
